‘ROOM 間 FOR FUTURE MEMORIES. scattered’ is a small room 間(Ma) for ‘future memories’. They are noted and imaged by Utako Shindo and her ‘friends’: Agnes Martin, Linda Swanson, Max Baseman, Nick Terry, Yuko Kawakita, Michael Diaz (and more to come and go). Shindo is an artist, working in the poetics of untranslatability. The room welcomes notes and translations in Japanese which is Shindo’s mother tongue. On friendship
よくよく考えると私にとってのアグネス・マーティンとは、インスピレーションを与えてくれる芸術家であるだけではなく 「友人」であると言えるかもしれない。彼女は2002年に他界しているが、実際に側にいなくても、芸術の名の下に様々な「形」で私の手を握ってくれると感じることがある。On reflection, Agnes Martin has been not only the artist who inspires me but my ‘friend’. She passed away in 2002, however, from time to time she could hold my hands through various ‘forms’ in the name of art. そんな「友人」関係を築くきっかけをくれたのは、私の近年のアメリカ合衆国南西部での活動を可能にしてくれたリンダさんである。そしてその活動を通してもたらされた数々の出会いのお陰で、このRoom 間（Ma）がある。My forming such an ‘friendship’ became possible because of Linda, who enabled my recent activities in the Southwest of U.S.. Agencies of bits and pieces
In sharing her humble and stimulating practice in her small room, Linda has recently showed me her works that she describes a “bits and pieces” . 『進藤詩子における陶と土』/ “Clay and Ceramics in Utako Shindo’s Art”
キュレーターで元益子陶芸美術館学芸員の川北裕子さんが、エッセイを寄せてくださった。私が轆轤を挽くきっかけとなったのは、川北さんが企画された加守田章二展を体験し、彼女のやきものに対する視線と思考に触れたことが大きい。（空間を生成するような線をひいてみたい）と思わされた。この「Room 間」を開くにあたり、『川北さんが今お考えのことを自由に書いてください』とお願いした。深謝いたします。Yuko Kawakita, a curator (formerly at the Mashiko Museum of Ceramic Art), kindly contributed an essay.
