Utako Shindo

Utako Shindo (Born in Tokyo, 1980) is an artist working internationally in the poetics of untranslatability. Her art employs the various processes of ‘transfer’ (utsuru in Japanese), manifested as drawing, print, photograph and video, and together forming an installation work. Shindo obtains her Ph.D. (2013-2017) through the interdisciplinary Centre for Ideas, the University of Melbourne, as well as her BFA, majoring in Drawing (2006) and MFA (2008) through the Victorian College of the Arts, Australia.
